A Clean Start
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Everyone carries a private list — the things we did, said, or failed to do that we'd rather no one ever see. Our usual strategy is management: hide it, outrun it, balance it out with good behavior. But a hidden weight is still a weight. Ask anyone who has carried a secret for years.
The Bible's word for the alternative is confession — and it may be the most misunderstood word in Christianity. Confession is not groveling, and it's not informing God of something he doesn't know. It's agreeing to stop hiding. It is, literally, coming clean.
And here is the promise attached: 'If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.' Faithful — he will do it every time. Righteous — because of the cross, forgiving you doesn't bend justice; it fulfills it. And cleanse — not just pardoned, but washed. The stain, not only the sentence, is dealt with.
In a culture where losing face can feel like losing everything, confession sounds dangerous. But notice: God is the one place where being fully seen and being fully loved happen at the same time. He already sees. The only thing confession changes is that you stop carrying it alone.
A clean start isn't wishful thinking. It's a promise with God's own faithfulness behind it — available today, and as many times as you need it.

Father, you already see everything I've been hiding. I bring it into the light. Thank you for a forgiveness that is faithful, just, and complete. Give me the courage of a clean start. Amen.
